Road2ACure

The California Ride

2nd Annual Ride and Rally for pancreatic

cancer awareness!

We would like to thank all of the volunteers, attendees, businesses, and web supporters that raised ~$40,000.00 for The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) at our 2007 motorcycle event called Ride for Hope. As you may know, we planned this as an annual event.

During this year, Chris and I founded a registered non-profit organization named Road2ACure dedicated to raising awareness and funds to fight pancreatic cancer. Our previous Ride for Hope has now been renamed Road2aCure-The California Ride and on October 12th we are pleased to bring it to you as our second annual event. Join us as we raise the bar.

Now!

Road2ACure-The California Ride and Rally will be held at Grove Park in Camarillo, CA, on Sunday, October 12Chris Calaprice, co-founder of Road 2 A Cure and five-year pancreatic and melanoma cancer survivor will lead bikers on a stunning ride that begins at Grove park, then parade through downtown Ventura drawing attention to pancreatic cancer and its urgent need for funding and research. The ride continues along the coastline and through Ventura County canyons via a route that takes riders back to the starting point for a final rally complete with vendors, competitions, family friendly activities, raffle prizes, and auction items. Riders and non-riders alike can chow down on a BBQ lunch, enjoy cold refreshments and party to the sounds of live entertainment.

Beginning February 21-October 11, 2009, Chris will embark, and he wants you to join him on a 50 State Motorcycle Tour with a live film crew documenting the ride. Along the way, Chris and his wife Jennifer, Road2ACure President, will organize rides and rallies throughout the country modeled after the October 12th ride. At the same time, they will be visiting pancreatic cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers, grassroots activists, policy makers, oncologists, medical centers and local and federal legislators. All of this is being done to drive home the necessity for progress in early detection, treatment and finally a cure. Chris, who has been receiving chemotherapy since his cancer diagnosis in 2003, will continue his treatment while on the tour that will span over 20,000 miles.

Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the United States, yet its funding accounts for less than 2% of the National Cancer Institute’s annual budget. Of the more than 37,000 Americans who will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year alone, only 25% will survive more than a year. Only 5% will survive past 5 years. Pancreatic cancer remains one of the few cancers for which survival has not improved substantially over the past 25 years - awareness and funding must be raised NOW!Road2ACure is endorsed by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
